The St. Paul Classic Bike Tour returns for its 30th year Sunday.
Bicyclists ride a 29-mile loop through five regional parks along the Mississippi River and around Lakes Phalen and Como. The route takes riders through iconic St. Paul destinations — places with histories dating back to the late 1800s.
Richard Arey is one of the founders of the classic. He said he’s seen an expansion of the city’s biking infrastructure.
“When we first started the ride, there was almost no facilities for bicycling except along Mississippi River Boulevard,” Arey said. “And that was one of the things we wanted to do from the very beginning with the ride, was to promote this route and the idea of making better bicycle facilities.”
