Heavy snow and difficult travel expected again, heaviest snow in southern Minnesota

Heads up early risers. There’s a nice little sky show in the eastern sky in the hours before dawn Tuesday morning. 

The waning crescent moon and red planet Jupiter will rise together in the eastern sky along with Pollux and Castor early Tuesday morning. You’ll also see the stars Pollux and Castor just left of the moon. So it should make a nice bright little cluster.

The moon rises at 12:45 a.m. in the Twin Cities Tuesday morning. But it takes a while to clear the horizon, trees, and hills around much of Minnesota, so you might start to see a good show anytime after around 3 a.m. in much of Minnesota.

Overall, skies should be mostly clear across most of western and central Minnesota overnight into Tuesday. But a band of clouds may linger to the east, so the best viewing may be from the western Twin Cities westward across central and western Minnesota.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s FV3 model shows the trend with a few clouds lingering in the east early Tuesday morning:

So if your skies are clear and you’re up early Tuesday morning before dawn take a look to the east. You might see a nice little sky show!
