The Minnesota Lynx are in the throes of the playoffs. And as the number one seed, they are the favorite to win it all this year.
The success they’ve seen this season and in recent seasons has a lot to do with their star forward, Napheesa Collier, who’s leading the team both on and off the court at a critical time for the league.
Michael Lee wrote about Collier for the Washington Post. He said making an impact is something she was “built for.”
Collier’s grandfather was a former ambassador who helped negotiate independence for Sierra Leone after more than 150 years of British rule. Collier’s father made sure she knew about this legacy, even though she never got to meet her grandfather.
“She grew up with that not only in her blood, but passed on from her father,” Lee said. “And I think she’s spent her life living up to that.”
