Top 10 warmest September likely
This week we reported on my latest Climate Cast episode that September in Minnesota has warmed 6 degrees on average since 1970.
Our balmy weather this September continues the trend of a fall climate that has shifted into a higher (warmer) gear across Minnesota.
Last September was the warmest on record in Minnesota running about 7 degrees warmer than normal. And just two years ago was the second warmest.

Right now we’re on pace for another top 5 to top 10 warmest September on record when the calendar flips to October next week.
The average monthly temperature at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport so far this month is 67.4 degrees. And it’s likely to go up by the end of the month.
Balmy weekend
Our warm and sunny weather pattern continues right through most of next week.
Highs this weekend will run mostly in the 70s north and 80s south and west.
Next week looks even warm for most areas in Minnesota. Highs in the 80s will become more widespread.
Warm October?
The weather maps appear to be stuck in semi-summer mode for the foreseeable future. October opens on decidedly summery notes later next week.
The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts model cranks out mid-80s for the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota next Friday, Oct. 3!
The normal high and low temperatures for the Twin Cities by next Friday are 65 and 47 degrees so we will be around 20 degrees warmer than normal to open October.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s week 3 to 4 temperature outlook (top of post) strongly suggests warmer than normal temperatures into late October this year.
