Two tropical systems continue to churn in the Atlantic basin, with Hurricane Humberto effectively sparing the southeastern U.S. coast by pulling Tropical Storm Imelda away through the 

The Atlantic basin is currently home to two very different tropical systems making waves, Hurricane Humberto and Tropical Storm Imelda.

Humberto, now a fierce Category 4 hurricane, is barreling northwestward with sustained winds near 145 mph. Though it’s expected to curve northeast and stay offshore, it could still bring dangerous surf and rip currents for the United States East Coast.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Imelda, which formed more recently east of the Bahamas with sustained winds near 60 mph, was initially forecast to track northward along the U.S. coastline. However, due to the rare 

, the stronger Hurricane Humberto is now exerting influence on Imelda’s path, pulling the storm off its original course. 

Regardless of its shifting path, Imelda is still expected to bring heavy rainfall to the Florida coastline and the Bahamas.

The forecast ahead remains particularly complicated as Hurricane Humberto and Tropical Storm Imelda continue their atmospheric dance. We’ll continue monitoring forecast models closely over the next few days, especially as Imelda is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Tuesday.
