Our extended summer continues.
We basically just enjoyed a second August during the month of September in Minnesota. Pending final numbers it looks like the Twin Cities tied for the eighth warmest September on record. Temperatures in the Twin Cities last month ran 4.1 degrees warmer than normal.
So in the past three Septembers we’ve seen the warmest September on record in 2024 (6.9 degrees warmer than normal), the second warmest September in 2023 (5.6 degrees above normal), and now the eighth warmest on record this September.
September has become a summer month more often than not in Minnesota. September in Minnesota has warmed 6 degrees on average overall since 1970!

Look for plenty of sunshine and very warm temperatures right through Saturday into early Sunday. Highs Thursday will be into the upper 80s in the south.
Friday and Saturday bring the warmest days of this early October heat wave. Highs will push the 90-degree mark in southern and western Minnesota.
The record high in the Twin Cities Friday is 90 degrees and Saturday is 89 degrees. We have a shot at tying or breaking records both days.
A cold front crossing Minnesota Sunday will bring a few showers to the north and a lesser chance south. It will be a windy weekend.
By Monday a more typical October air mass will crash high temperatures into the 50s north and 60s south.
