Even though they’re out of the playoffs, the Minnesota Lynx are still the talk of the basketball world after a star coach and star player called out league officials over matters of player safety.

Last week, during game 3 of the WNBA semifinals, star Lynx player Napheesa Collier was injured after a Phoenix Mercury player stole the ball from her.

Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve yelled at officials and was ejected from the game. In a post-game press conference, she called out league leadership for a lack of concern for player safety. This week, Collier also harshly critiqued league leadership.

In hockey, the Minnesota Wild made headlines ahead of the start of the NHL season by re-signed forward Kirill Kaprizov to a record-breaking, $136 million contract extension.

To put these two stories in context, we checked in with two sports reporters, Cassidy Hettesheimer of the Minnesota Star Tribune and James Dator of SB Nation.
