Heavy snow and difficult travel expected again, heaviest snow in southern Minnesota

It’s finally cooler and rainy around Minnesota today. But October is the latest in a string of warmer-than-normal months for Minnesota in 2025.

The graphic below offers a look at temperatures so far this month in the Twin Cities. Note how the observed (green) temperature bars favor the upper range of historical temperatures so far this month. The Twin Cities set a record high of 91 degrees on Oct. 4.

Temperatures so far in October are running more than 10 degrees warmer than normal in parts of western Minnesota. 

Every month since February has delivered warmer temperatures than normal in the Twin Cities and most of Minnesota. 

March started the trend with temperatures 5.9 degrees warmer than normal in the Twin Cities. 

April through summer were just slightly warmer than normal this year coming in between one-half and 1.3 degrees above normal.

March, September (+4.1 degrees) and October have been the warmest months relative to normal this year.

We’re getting some cooler spells as we head into the last half of October. But the forecast maps and outlooks rolling into the Huttner Weather Lab favor warmer-than-normal temperatures overall the rest of this month.
