It’s been a dry start to fall across most of Minnesota. This week’s rain system was the first significant rain for southern Minnesota in more than 3 weeks.
The most significant soaking rain fell from the central Twin Cities southward. Here are some select rainfall totals from Minnesota.

Zumbrota 1.03”
Rochester 1.00”
Burnsville .94”
Northfield .89”
Lakeville .86”
Prior Lake .80”
Excelsior .72”
Bloomington .69”

Less than .25” fell in most areas north of the Twin Cities. So northern Minnesota’s expanding drought zone got little rainfall.
I expect the drought areas to increase in northern Minnesota when Thursday’s updated drought monitor report is released.
