In this Minnesota city, proposed property tax bumps pile up as residents push back

The Freeborn County Government Center outside of downtown Albert Lea. In Albert Lea, the county, city and school district have all proposed hiking up their tax levy in 2026, a trend that's expected to happen across the state as local governments deal with rising costs and expenses passed down by the state and federal government.
