The brightest supermoon of 2025 shines overhead Tuesday night. The full Beaver Moon will rise in the east around sunset time before 5 p.m. and climb in the eastern sky Tuesday evening. The supermoon will be at peak fullness 7:19 a.m. Wednesday.

 are designated when the moon is closest to Earth (perigee) during the year. The full Beaver Moon is about 221,000 miles from Earth. That’s about 30,000 miles closer than some of the farthest moons from Earth! (apogee)

Supermoons are as much as 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than moons that are farthest away from Earth. The moons reflect more sunlight since they are closer to Earth. That’s why it can seem like twilight out there at night with the increased moon glow here on Earth.

Northern Minnesota will see more clouds Tuesday night, but partly cloudy skies in the south should make for decent moon viewing.
