Mild Pacific air gushed into Minnesota Tuesday afternoon as expected. Temperatures reached into the 50s at several locations, including near the Canadian border at International Falls.
Canby in southwestern Minnesota hit 51 degrees Tuesday afternoon.
In the Twin Cities, we’ve hit 43 degrees so far.
On the map below, you can see how widespread temperatures in the 40s and even 50s are Tuesday afternoon as Minnesota rides the northern edge of a mild air mass. (I believe the 64-degree temperature at Wadena is a faulty sensor.)
A winter storm watch is up for northwestern Minnesota late Wednesday into Thursday. A potent storm will bring snow and high winds to the north country later Wednesday. Here’s the National Weather Service bulletin:

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions possible. Highest chances for widespread whiteout conditions are along and north of Highway 200. There is a medium chance for blizzard conditions south of Highway 200. Total snow accumulations up to two inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph.
* WHERE...Portions of northwest and west central Minnesota and northeast and southeast North Dakota.
* WHEN...From late Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow.
