Minnesota food shelves urge ICE to stop enforcement surge

One hundred Minnesota food shelves have signed a statement asking for an end to the surge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions in Minnesota. “People are stranded and hungry. This cannot continue,” the statement reads.
Sarah Moberg, CEO of Second Harvest Heartland, a hunger-relief organization that partners with food shelves, said families aren’t leaving their homes.
“What we are seeing right now is just widespread fear and anxiety,” she said.
Second Harvest Heartland was also one of the signatories on the statement.
Moberg said they’re also seeing ICE staging in parking lots of food shelves and following volunteers. Food shelves have had to adapt, sometimes by using networks within the community.
“We are doing everything we can to get food out to where it's needed and into those households who are unable or don't feel safe leaving their homes,” Moberg said.
