K Pop Blizzard Hunter, Bob Chillin’ and Don’t Flurry, Be Happy: Those are three of the 30 finalists announced Thursday as voting opened for the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s annual “Name a Snowplow” contest.

As shown by the names listed above — music is a common theme among the finalists. There are also nods to pop culture of the past year, such as Six-Sleddin’, Six-Sleddin’.

Politics and current events are not represented. When collecting submissions earlier this winter, MnDOT had said it would not consider “politically inspired” names.

The 30 finalists were picked from more than 6,700 entries. 

The top eight vote-getters will go on state snowplows across Minnesota — one in each of MnDOT’s eight districts. It’s the sixth winter that the agency has conducted the contest.

Past winners include Betty Whiteout, Han Snowlo and Plow Bunyan. Find a complete list of this year’s finalists and past years’ winners below.
