Minneapolis schools are closed for the President’s Day holiday, but when classes resume, many teachers and students will not be going to class in person.

The Trump administrations immigration crackdown in the state has spread fear among many families afraid of being detained or harmed while on their way to school. So much so, that a week before border czar 

 of federal agents, Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) 

 in which families and students can learn online to April 6. 

MPS Board Chair Collin Beachy said e-learning is a necessity to keeping these families safe. He added, however, that with free school meals and so many students at home in fear, it’s costing the school money. 

“We're losing thousands of dollars a day” he said. “This was something that was inflicted on us. And so we're going to need [federal and state] help in trying to get through this.”
