Minnesota winter storm prompts school delays, closings on Friday

With winter storm and blizzard warnings in effect for northern Minnesota through Friday morning, March 13, some schools and colleges have announced changes to their plans for the day.

Duluth schools moved to online learning for the day. The Cook County school district in Grand Marais is among the districts starting classes two hours late on Friday. Parts of the North Shore are forecast to receive more than a foot of snow by Friday afternoon.

“We will be in communication with the highway department and evaluate travel conditions early in the morning so please watch for possible messages,” district officials said in an update on Thursday afternoon.

The College of St. Scholastica and Lake Superior College in Duluth also announced that they will operate on a delayed start on Friday.

A handful of districts in southern Minnesota changed plans for Friday due to power outages.
