Paralympian Sydney Peterson said she had a lot of doubt that she would win her race, and while she’ll be returning to the U.S. a gold medalist, she said she isn’t thinking about the results.
“There should be more emphasis on just enjoying the process of skiing,” Peterson told MPR news.
Peterson, who’s from Lake Elmo, finished 2.7 seconds ahead of the silver medalist from Norway in the 10-kilometer classic standing event at the Winter Games in Italy.
She added that snow conditions were not ideal, but mirrored what she had been training in while living in Utah before heading to the games.
Peterson is a Stillwater High School alum, the same as Minnesota Olympian Jessie Diggins. Peterson said that Diggins would visit the school and practices.
“She's made a tremendous influence on my own ski career, and I think she's really shaped this culture of skiing throughout Minnesota and the United States,” she said.
