Hazardous driving conditions prompt southern Minnesota schools to delay start of classes Tuesday

More than two dozen school districts across southern Minnesota delayed the start of classes on Tuesday morning, as driving conditions remain hazardous following Sunday’s blizzard.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation continued to report icy or snow-covered highways across much of southern Minnesota on Tuesday, though overall road conditions across the region were greatly improved compared to Monday morning.

The storm dropped more than 20 inches of snow on parts of southeast Minnesota, and gusty winds caused extensive blowing and drifting snow.

Another round of light snow is expected across the state Tuesday afternoon and evening, with an inch or two possible.

Snow emergency parking rules continue for many communities across the region, including Minneapolis and St. Paul.
