Minnesota weather: Prolific snowfall totals north, early spring week ahead

Well, at least we needed the moisture.

Our dueling sloppy wintry storms last week dumped some prolific wet snowfall totals across parts of northwest Minnesota. The heaviest snowfall zone featured snowfall from 8 inches to more than a foot from North Dakota through Fargo-Moorhead into northwest Minnesota.

Here are some select snowfall totals from the two storms last week, ending Saturday:

Vergas, Minn. — 17”
Fargo area — 13.5”
Bemidji — 12”
Lake Kabetogema — 10.5”
International Falls — 9.2”
Hermantown, Finland — 8”
Walker — 7”

Soaking rainfall south

In the Twin Cities and points south, it was mostly rain. Most areas around the Twin Cities picked up more than an inch of liquid moisture over the past week.

And check out the prolific rainfall totals across southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa and southwest Wisconsin. Between 2 and 6 inches fell across that region. There are some soggy farm fields and swiftly running streams in that area!

Quieter week ahead

This week will be quieter across our region. Other than a few rain and snow showers into early Monday, the highest rainfall chances arrive Wednesday with some snow possible in the north.

Highs Monday will be cool under cloudy, breezy skies.
