Prior Lake family charged with assaulting conservative influencer at ICE protest

Three members of a Prior Lake family are facing federal charges for allegedly attacking a conservative influencer outside the Whipple Federal Building.

Christopher Ostroushko, 51, DeYanna Ostroushko, 46, and 20-year-old Paige Ostroushko are charged with misdemeanor assault in connection with the April 11 incident. Christopher and Paige are also charged with interfering with a federally protected activity — a felony — according to a grand jury indictment unsealed Wednesday.

Savanah Hernandez, a reporter with Turning Point USA, was recording video at an anti-ICE protest when Paige allegedly punched her and knocked her to the ground.

After Hernandez gets up, Christopher then allegedly shoved Hernandez to the ground from behind.

Protester Oskar Quentin posted his own video of the incident to Instagram, which shows Hernandez on the ground with Paige and another person on top of her briefly before other protesters help escort Hernandez away toward sheriff’s deputies.

Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche, who said previously that the FBI would not investigate the Jan. 7 killing of Renee Good by ICE Agent Jonathan Ross, said in a Wednesday news release that the Justice Department “will always punish unhinged acts of political violence.”

Hennepin County prosecutors also charged Christopher Ostroushko with misdemeanor fifth-degree assault. County Attorney Mary Moriarty said in a statement that her office declined to charge four others other people arrested during the incident because of “insufficient evidence.” Moriarty said that her office is committed to protecting the right to protest, “but violent conduct is unacceptable.”
