 in south Minneapolis, there isn't much new information from the feds.

“This inaction was predictable,” journalist Quinta Jurecic wrote this week in a 

story for The Atlantic on the shooting and its aftermath

. “The federal government has succeeded in protecting immigration officers from serious consequences for the violence” stemming from Operation Metro Surge.

As state and county officials move forward on their investigations, Jurecic told MPR News Morning Edition on Wednesday that the lack of access to evidence controlled by Washington has forced Minnesota investigators to do two things. 

“One is sue the federal government for access to that information that is being withheld from them, and that lawsuit is ongoing in federal court in the District of Columbia,” she said.

“And the second, as Mary Moriarty, the county attorney for Hennepin County, told me, is waiting for the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to take a look through all of the video evidence and all of the other evidence that is available to the state and to the county and see if it might be possible to build a criminal case after that,” Jurecic explained.
