Firefighting crews continue to make progress toward containing wildfires in northern Minnesota, but those fires are still burning in parts of the Boundary Waters. 

 found that the Trump administration's DOGE effort last year delayed a $10 million grant that was supposed to help thin out dead trees in the Superior National Forest as a way to reduce the fire risk. That work never got started, and some of those same areas have burned in this summer's fires. 

MPR News host Emily Bright spoke with Washington Post reporter Brianna Sacks about the DOGE cuts and their impact on the Superior National Forest.
