Many St. Cloud public school students begin their first day of classes Tuesday, with the rest following suit Wednesday. This year, teachers in that district will have access to a new artificial intelligence tool in their classrooms.
The company, OpenAI, which created ChatGPT, is providing a number of schools with their latest development: ChatGPT Edu. The company says this educational tool will help teachers streamline their work and enhance lesson planning.
St. Cloud Public Schools Superintendent Laurie Putnam said the tool is not required to be used by educators.
“Our goal is to make sure that if our staff choose to use it, that there is a safe way to do so,” Putnam said.
She added that the district owns the data and OpenAI will not use it to train any of its models.
