Events taking place around Minnesota on Friday will mark 25 years since the Sept. 11th attacks, with community service, music and ceremonies planned.
In St. Paul, hundreds of people plan to volunteer for a meal-packing event for Second Harvest Heartland, assembling packs of food for people in need. It’s the fifth annual volunteer event, aimed at turning Sept. 11 into a day of service.
The nonprofit 9/11 Day organizes dozens of similar events across the country each Sept. 11, with a goal of encouraging community service in remembrance of the lives lost in the attacks.
Across the river, residents can listen to a tribute concert at the Lake Harriet Bandshell in Minneapolis at 7 p.m., with performances by the 204th Army Band and the Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble.

That concert has been a tradition for several years, but organizers say this one will be the last. Organizers canceled it in 2023, citing a shortage of volunteers.
At Providence Academy in Plymouth, first responder vehicles from at least 19 departments across Hennepin County will take part in a procession Friday morning, ahead of a ceremony. The school will have 2,977 American flags on its grounds, one for each life lost on 9/11.
Several fire departments around the state will mark the day, too. The North St. Paul Fire Department plans to set out on a remembrance walk from city hall. And in Duluth, firefighters will host their annual stair climb, hiking up 2,200 steps at Amsoil Arena — the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center.
St. Cloud, Cass County and Edina are among other communities with events planned commemorating the day.
