A man accused of shooting and killing three people in a St. Paul apartment building in July has pleaded not guilty.
30-year-old Tsegaab Binessu, charged with three counts of murder, appeared in court Friday.
At the hearing, Judge Kellie Charles said a psychiatric evaluation found Binessu competent to stand trial, after ordering the evaluation earlier in the case.
Binessu’s attorney Joseph Egan requested further psychiatric evaluation Friday, and said he plans to enter a mental health defense.

The shooting rattled the community at the Davern Park Apartments in the Highland Park neighborhood. According to charges in Ramsey County, 30-year-old Tsegaab Binessu had visited the building’s leasing office to ask to cancel his parking contract after selling his car. Employees told him he couldn’t cancel it.
He then allegedly shot and killed three employees: Nansi G. Fuentes Zambrano, 25, of Inver Grove Heights; Dena M. Silcox, 56, of St. Paul; and Adam J. Wilwerding, 43, of Oakdale. Family and friends of the people killed filled the courtroom Friday
Binessu is currently in jail. The judge previously set bail at $10,000,000.
The case is scheduled to go to trial in April. Binessu is due back in court for a hearing in January.
