Minnesota insurers pull back on Medicare Advantage options for 2027

Hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans will need to find new insurance coverage for 2027 as insurers including Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, Medica, and HealthPartners pull back or restructure their Medicare Advantage plans.

The insurers say higher drug and healthcare costs are forcing them to overhaul Medicare Advantage, a private health plan option offered to people on Medicare.

MPR News host Emily Bright spoke with Peter Huckfeldt, a health policy professor at the University of Minnesota, about the changes to Medicare Advantage plans in the coming year.
