The family of Renee Good filed two civil lawsuits related to her death during Operation Metro Surge. The lawsuits name the federal agent who fatally shot Good, as well as current and former Trump administration officials.

Lauren Bonds, the executive director of the National Police Accountability Project, said similar to the Cornell sexual assault case, that a civil lawsuit provoked criminal charges and led to a reexamination of the suit.

“It's very possible for something that come out during discovery in this lawsuit to to give prosecutors what they need to take a second look,” she said.

Additionally, Bonds said the lawsuit could bring charges against Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jonathan Ross, who shot and killed Good.
