The calm amid the chaos backstage at First Avenue

Earlier this year, longtime First Avenue Stage Manager Conrad Sverkerson suffered a severe back injury, which left him out of work and without a paycheck for several weeks. "Conrad," as many refer to him, has become a beloved figure in the local scene by providing a friendly calm amid the chaos of the region's best-known nightclub.

At first Anastasia Khitruk thought he must be a contemporary composer who hadn't yet become well-known. Further research identified Ivan Khandoshkin as a musician who served at the imperial court of St. Petersburg, a virtuoso violinist and an accomplished composer who knew how to write challenging, yet entertaining, music.
