Friday night marked the one year anniversary of the I-35W bridge collapse. Several hundred people attended a memorial service near the foot of the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis to remember the tragedy.
When the I-35W bridge fell, it severed a major traffic artery through Minneapolis. The detours and bridge construction have brought noise, spectators and traffic bottlenecks to the immediate area.
The National Transportation Safety Board grows closer to completing its investigation on the bridge collapse. Under-sized gusset plates and corrosion appear to be two factors.
Victims who were injured in the 35W bridge collapse and families of the 13 people killed can file for compensation from a nearly $37 million fund created by the Legislature. A panel of three attorneys will decide who gets some of the money, and how much they get. Morning Edition host Cathy Wurzer talked with Susan Holden, chair of that panel.
