That assessment is frustrating some lawmakers who say the bridge collapse should be a wake-up call for greater investment in the state's roads and bridges.
Across the Twin Cities, in Spanish, Greek and
English, the prayers rose up Sunday. Prayers of peace for grieving
families. Prayers of strength for those still searching the
Mississippi River. And prayers of gratitude from those who were
spared.
The Minneapolis Police Department has released the names of eight people missing in the Interstate 35W bridge collapse. Families of some of the missing visited the collapse site Saturday. Divers are searching the murky river waters for victims. Five people are confirmed dead in Wednesday's bridge collapse. No bodies were recovered Saturday.
The southern end of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis has been ruled out as the starting point of the structure's collapse. The chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board says the agency will now examine the northern portion of the bridge.
Divers spent a third fruitless day searching
for victims of a deadly bridge collapse, finding no bodies inside a
crushed car pulled earlier Saturday from the murky Mississippi
River waters.
