Kim Scott is a familiar name around Silicon Valley. She’s coached CEOs at Dropbox and Twitter, and she’s also led teams at Google.
She made waves outside of the tech world with her management book “Radical Candor,” which coaches leaders on how to give direct, thoughtful feedback to their teams.
Scott told Forbes that after hosting a workshop based on her book, she got radical feedback from a former colleague who is one of a handful of Black women CEOs in tech. The CEO pointed out that when she offered radical honesty, even when couched with care and concern, she faced racist stereotypes and was perceived as an “angry Black woman.”
That conversation led to Scott’s new book “Just Work: Get Sh*t Done, Fast & Fair,” which addresses bias and gives advice on shaping a more equitable workplace.
She joined MPR News guest host Steph Curtis to discuss her book and share her tips for addressing uncomfortable issues at work.
