Woman takes French oil company to court for mother’s death

As climate change intensifies and fuels more climate disasters, who should be held responsible for the toll on human life? 

Some advocates and legal scholars are trying to convince courts that it should be fossil fuel companies and polluters. And in one court room in Europe, a criminal case has been brought forth by a daughter against an oil company after the death of her mother in a record-breaking flood in Europe.  

The Lever’s senior investigative reporter Lois Parshley wrote about the so-called “climate homicide” case and what it could mean for climate litigation. She talked to Paul Huttner about it.
