U.S. Attorney drops charges against men accused of assaulting immigration officer

Federal officials say they’re ending a major immigration enforcement surge in Minnesota and beginning to draw down ICE agents after months of intensified activity. But lawyers and advocates say the consequences of that operation are still unfolding.

Minnesota U.S. Attorney Dan Rosen on Thursday dropped charges against two men accused of assaulting an immigration officer.

A judge Thursday temporarily blocked the Trump administration from cancelling $42 million in public health funding from the Minnesota Department of Health.

Minnesota cross-country skier Jessie Diggins says she may be the most grateful bronze medalist at the Winter Olympics after overcoming injury to claim a medal in Thursday’s women’s 10-kilometer freestyle race in Italy. Diggins suffered bruised ribs in a race earlier in the Winter Games. Yesterday’s bronze is the fourth Olympic medal for Diggins in her career. She says this will be her final season of competition.

Minnesota curler Rich Ruohonen is now the oldest person to compete for the U.S. at the Winter Olympics. The 54-year-old lawyer from Brooklyn Park earned that distinction when he subbed in to throw a stone for the U.S. men’s team Thursday during their game with Switzerland.
