Photos: Inside the new St. Paul Union Depot

Forty-one years after the last train pulled out of St. Paul's Union Station, the rail hub is ready for trains to return. The landmark station reopens Saturday after a $243 million facelift. The depot will host a new bus hub with intercity bus service returning in 2013, Amtrak trains later in the year, and light rail service in 2014. St. Paul hopes the depot can spark a transportation renaissance for the city.

It's especially been a challenge with prostate cancer. That's why a new Mayo Clinic scanning technique that helps doctors detect recurring prostate cancers months or even years earlier than before, is receiving considerable attention.

Photos: A look at north country trappers

In north-central Minnesota over the weekend, 16-year-old Koltin Wagner was among nearly 800 Minnesota trappers who are the first to legally trap wolves since the early 1970s. Wagner learned a few tricks from his neighbor, 66-year-old Joe Edminster.

Photos: Princeton, Minn. food shelf sustains, relies on community

Created in 1981 in a broom closet at a local church, the Princeton Pantry serves about 250 families a month. The modest food shelf had its busiest day ever on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, providing food for 31 families in three hours. Staffed with just two part-time employees, the pantry stays afloat with the help of more than 25 volunteers and many small donors.

Photos: Herring eggs are 'Lake Superior Gold' for Grand Marais fishery

For about six weeks in October and November, Lake Superior anglers pull thousands of the silvery fish, also called cisco, from the lake's icy waters. Harley Toftey has fished lake herring in the big lake for 31 years and said there are more herring now in Lake Superior than there have ever been since he began fishing.
