Monthly checks to low-income people; Red River phosphorus pollution

Mother of teen stabbed at Apple River testifies. Trooper Londregan asks for charges dismissed

The mother of a Stillwater teenager fatally stabbed while tubing on the Apple River testified Monday at the trial of the man charged with killing him. And attorneys for Ryan Londregan, the state trooper charged in the shooting death of a motorist last summer, are asking the judge to dismiss the charges against him.

Witnesses say confrontation preceded deadly attack on Apple River

Witnesses testified Tuesday in the trial of a Minnesota man charged with fatally stabbing a teenager during a tubing trip in western Wisconsin. Nicolae Miu is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Isaac Schuman of Stillwater during a confrontation in 2022. Metro Transit seeks more ticket agents. State Patrol wants new HQ building

Metro Transit plans to have 24 non-police agents to enforce light rail fares and rules — but right now, they only have half that number. And the Minnesota State Patrol says the patrol needs an updated headquarters. Currently, the patrol has offices across state, but it says those offices are outdated and far too small.

Londregan’s prosecution controversy. Journalists receive settlement for riot injuries

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison says he hasn’t received a formal request to assist or take over the prosecution of Trooper Ryan Londregan, who is charged in the 2023 death of Ricky Cobb II as he fled a traffic stop. Ellison says the case would present a logistical challenge because his office also represents the Minnesota State Patrol in civil matters. And two journalists have reached a $1.2 million settlement with the State Patrol for injuries sustained during the riots after George Floyd’s murder.
