It's been a busy week in Minnesota sports, and Morning Edition host Cathy Wurzer checked in with Star Tribune digital sports editor Howard Sinker for the latest—like how the Wild and Timberwolves are doing in the playoffs.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are headed to the NBA playoffs for the first time in 14 years, after beating the Denver Nuggets in overtime Wednesday night. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Wild have made the NHL playoffs for six straight years, and kicked off the latest round on Wednesday.
The Minnesota Twins won their season opener Thursday on a chilly day at Target Field. The Minnesota Timberwolves were beaten by the Denver Nuggets Thursday night. The University of Minnesota Duluth takes on Notre Dame in the NCAA Men's Hockey Championship Saturday night at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
The Twins play the Pirates in Pittsburgh Wednesday night, in the final game of their season-opening road trip. Then, they return to the Twin Cities for Thursday's home opener -- the first of 10 straight games scheduled to be played at Target Field.
The major league baseball season kicked off on Thursday— and the Twins started it with a tight 3-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Elsewhere in Minnesota sports this week, the atmosphere was a bit more upbeat.

Vikings expected to sign new quarterback
