No sales tax for Vikings stadium
Gov. Mark Dayton and legislative leaders announced Tuesday that there isn't enough support in the Legislature to pass a local sales tax hike to help pay for Minnesota Vikings stadium unless it has voter approval.
The Minnesota Stars are looking for a second win in the final game of the North American Soccer League Championship Saturday night in Florida, and all their rivals are helping to pay the Stars' way.
Gov. Mark Dayton and some state lawmakers say they're open to the idea of using state legacy amendment funds to help finance a new Vikings stadium. But others object. The Minnesota Historical Society says the idea is contrary to the amendment's language. That language says proceeds from the arts and cultural fund "may be spent only on arts, arts education and arts access to preserve Minnesota's history and cultural heritage."
