Minnesota gets pig back, beats No. 24 Iowa 27-24

Duane Bennett's touchdown run with 4:31 left lifted Minnesota to 27-24 victory Saturday over 24th-ranked Iowa, as the Hawkeyes lost another fourth-quarter lead while falling to the rival Gophers for the first time in four years and giving up the Floyd of Rosedale trophy.

This Saturday is the 75th anniversary of the creation of one of college football's most famous trophies. Floyd of Rosedale goes each November to the winner of the Minnesota-Iowa game. On one level, the bronze pig is just another collegiate prize. But few people know it had its origins in a 1934 game with racial overtones.

Childress fired; Frazier hired

The Minnesota Vikings begin the Leslie Frazier era in earnest today. Frazier was named head coach yesterday, after Brad Childress was fired. The team is just 3-7 and suffered a crushing 31-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in the Metrodome. Team Owner Zygi Wilf introduced Frazier as the interim-head coach, who will lead the team for the last six games of the year.
