Minneapolis officials are pondering whether to make a bid for the city to help build a new stadium for the Minnesota Vikings. The question is whether the city can afford it. It already has some of the highest sales, hotel, food and car rental taxes compared to other cities that host NFL teams.
Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf visited
the Capitol to meet with state lawmakers and encourage them to
support a bill to build a new football stadium for the team.
MPR News has obtained a draft of the Vikings stadium bill that calls for a combination of tax hikes and team contributions to pay for a new stadium. The bill is likely to be introduced at the Legislature next week.
A Minnesota Vikings official stressed the
various ways in which the team gives back to the state as he
debated other experts Wednesday about whether public funding should
be used to build a new stadium for the NFL team.
