How the new 35W bridge was built so quickly

State officials announce today when the new I-35W bridge over the Mississippi River will open to traffic, perhaps as early as tomorrow. They will also announce how the victims of the bridge collapse on Aug. 1, 2007 will be memorialized.

The new bridge will open three months ahead of schedule, which means millions of dollars in incentive bonuses to Flatiron Construction for finishing early.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with State Bridge Engineer Dan Dorgan about how the bridge was built so quickly.
