MnSCU criticizes Pawlenty's vetoes in bonding bill
MnSCU Chancellor James McCormick says Gov. Tim Pawlenty's recent removal of $133 million earmarked for facility proposals in the bonding bill could hurt the state's higher education goals.

Pawlenty line-item vetoed about $300 million worth of projects in the bonding bill. McCormick said if the cuts go through, MnSCU efforts to raise math and science grades might fall short.
"If we don't have the appropriate kinds of facilities we're not going to be able to do this in the numbers that we need," he said.
After the governor's vetoes, the state will borrow $686 million for building and maintenance projects. That's about a third smaller than the bill lawmakers approved.
