Q&A: Safety in youth hockey

Thousands of hockey players, their teams and leagues are pledging to play the game more safely. After some recent high school student injuries, they're signing Jack's Pledge, inspired by Jack Jablonski - a high school player paralyzed after a rough hit.

The pledge reinforces education and enforcement of USA Hockey's existing rules, but also offers an optional one. Rule 13, which would tighten down on penalties for checking players into the boards. And, it encourages eliminating body checking from youth hockey.
