If Haiti can't end poverty, at least it can gussy it up a little bit.
The Associated Press reports today that workers have started painting building in the Jalousie slum in a project that will cost $1.4 million. It's an effort to relocate people from the displacement camps in which many have been living since the 2010 earthquake. The government will pay people in some of the camps to move into neighborhoods like Jalousie.
"This is just to make it look like they're doing something for the people but in reality they are not," said Sen. Moise Jean-Charles, an outspoken critic of President Michel Martelly, told the AP.
