There may be no more honored guests at the Minnesota State Fair this year than the ones who surprised MPR's Cathy Wurzer before her Almanac program this morning.

Bruce Kramer and his wife, Ev, surprised the woman who's been telling their story of Bruce's ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) on MPR's Morning Edition for the last few years.
The effort it took is remarkable. It took hours to get ready and get through the traffic. Navigating the State Fairgrounds can be a nightmare even for people without the illness.
They got to the MPR booth early and stayed for the entire show.
This is their first trip to the fair since he was diagnosed.
