The Moorhead City Council has had a change of heart -- sort of -- in its opposition to housing for the homeless in the city.
This week the Council rescinded its resolution, passed last week, opposing an apartment complex for the previously homeless, the Fargo Forum reports.
“We don’t have input necessarily on our destination, but we are along for the ride,” Councilwoman Brenda Elmer said. “And we can either make it a tolerable trip, a successful trip, or we can kick and scream all the way and make it miserable for everybody.”
Last week, neighbors of the proposed building convinced the Council to vote not to support it, even though the City Council has no say in it.
The project, proposed by Churches United, is to be funded by a state grant.
“They made a determination that they want to move forward with this project with or without our blessing, and so I’m just stating that I would rather work with them in good faith,” Elmer said.
