There's a fair chance that tonight will mark the official end of baseball, assuming the San Francisco Giants knock off the Kansas City Royals in the World Series.
Then, the nation's long descent into darkness (and a little madness, too) begins, buoyed only by a slow approaching circle on a date in early February when pitchers and catchers report to spring training, and we are reminded that anything is possibly, even if highly unlikely.
Baseball lends itself to metaphors that no other sport can provide. This op-doc from a prison this week in the New York Times is proof of that.
"Baseball is like doing time."
So long, baseball. Don't stay away too long.
