It also shows why people die in small plane crashes, even if they've got some flat land to land on.
NASA was testing emergency locator transmitters -- ELTs -- which are the beacons that send out a signal (assuming the antenna wasn't smashed in the process) when G forces in an airplane reach a certain level.
In my small plane, I call it the "here's where you can find my body" device, because it's unlikely a human body could stand the forces of such a quick deceleration.
This plane was dropped from just 100 feet.
