The growing movement to end tipping will find few fans in tiny Lisbon, N.D., southwest of Fargo.
Shiela Weisgerber got a $300 tip on a $33 bill the other day at the First and Last Chance Bar, after patrons heard the grandmother talking about the triplets she's raising, Fargo Forum reports.
"This couple comes in and orders drinks," she writes on her Facebook page. "I was talking to a couple regulars about the boys and this couple overheard and said 'triplets?!?' and I smiled and said 'yes.' So I showed them a picture and they were like 'Holy Cow!'"
The triplets were born to a daughter who already had a child and felt she couldn't raise the boys on her own. The boys' father died in a car crash in February.
"I love children and it wasn't in my cards to have more," she told the Forum. "And now I've been blessed to raise the boys. If I was asked to do it over again. I would. These little guys are a true blessing."
"It's fantastic. Anytime we can do some good in the world in general," bar owner Dave Cole said. "The last few months have been really hard with random deaths around here. We really needed a boost. This was a godsend. Literally, it made everybody brighten up. ... You know that there still is good left."
Scrawled on the bar receipt was a message from the couple who left the tip: "Take care of those boys!"
