If you didn't know any better, you'd think the state's transportation projects have all ground to a halt, what with the Legislature unable to agree on a transportation package in a non-budget year at the Minnesota Capitol.
Hardly.
The $156 million Highway 53 relocation project on the Iron Range is a good example. It will yield the tallest bridge in Minnesota. The current Highway 53 was built on land owned by mining interests who now want to dig for taconite.
How big is this project? This drone video posted yesterday has the answer: really big.
The first order for steel girders that will span the Rouchleau Pit as part of the Highway 53 Relocation Project bridge has been placed and will be delivered to the project over the summer and fall, MnDOT said in a press release this week.
