In Milwaukee, the kids at St. Coletta Day School got to go on a field trip on the first day of the school year. They went to court to see a classmate get adopted by her foster mother.
Abby Novotny, 10, is the eighth foster child adopted by Anne Novotny, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Jim Stingl writes today.
"I was going into foster homes. It made me a little sad, so I thought, all right, put your money where your mouth is. So I started fostering. I never had any clue it would morph into this," she said.
"It's just a great way to start our first day back. I have attended one of Anne's other adoptions, but we've never come as an entire school before," St. Coletta Administrator Bill Koehn said.
